Sisters of Calvary Garden and Orchand Project |
|
| |
Twenty years ago, six local women from Botswana and Zimbabwe were commissioned as the Sisters of Calvary to help the disadvantaged in Botswana. Today the order has grown to 40 members.
The sisters have a motherhouse located in Gabarone and another convent downtown. In Francistown this order dutifully teaches and cares for the children of St. James School and also supports St. James Church. They also have satellite convents in many of the small villages outside the cities where they work directly with HIV/AIDS people and their children.
The only visitor some individuals have are the Sisters of Calvary and many of those affected by HIV/AIDS die alone from starvation because they are too weak to get food for themselves.
The sisters have invested in a successful bore hole for water to develop a garden and orchard to locally grow produce that can be given to their HIV/AIDS clients to help alleviate their suffering. To continue the project they need 44,000 Pula or about $9,000 US dollars to install an electric pump, controls and a storage system for developing and watering the garden and orchard.
