Have you ever wondered if you are doing the right thing?
Churches and missions are built to not only meet the spiritual needs of people, but to give them an opportunity to participate in all the positive things a community has to offer.
What began 20 years ago as promise to help a young priest administer to his extremely poor congregation in the desert of southern Africa, has evolved into a lifelong commitment. Over the ensuing years we have raised funds and contributed significant personal resources to assist this young priest, Frank Nubuasah, develop a Christian community in Botswana, Africa.
From there, projects like building a church (St. James Parish, named after my husband and St. John’s Priest House, named after my husband's father) became a labor of love. Since then other projects have also been worthy of our time and commitment – the Mother Theresa Resource Center, and many projects related to the care and education of orpahns and vulnerable children.
Father Nubuasah has become Bishop Nubuasah and been given the responsibility to coordinate the church’s efforts in assisting those afflicted by AIDS. The AIDS epidemic has had a significant impact on his congregation. Many children have been left to fend for themselves without parents and homes.
Bishop Nubuasah is committed to developing the community resources needed to assist the children and others affected by this disease increase their ability to sustain themselves. A small congregation of Sisters work diligently with the limited resources available to them to support his work. The vision to create a culture of caring in the community is an ongoing challenge.
Yes, now I am convinced we are doing the right thing. I believe that churches and missions play a major role in the building of a community with its support in good times and bad. We at the Botswana Mission want to thank you for your prayers, hard work and contributions in helping us to realize our goal to provide sustainable resources for the people of Botswana to fully enjoy their community, friends and all the good things God has provided.
Once again, thank you. God loves all of you and so do I.
